Buying a home is special — there’s nothing like it. Hear from several people who recently bought a home about how they felt about the home buying process.

Everyone buys a home for a different reason, but one thing is always the same: that amazing feeling that you just can’t explain. Maybe it’s the excitement of independence or the accomplishment of providing a home for your family. Maybe it’s just feeling like a grown-up for the first time. Maybe it’s being part of a community that you can feel proud of. Maybe you just want to enjoy that unspoken coziness of coming home every night.

A few homebuyers talk about what their homes mean to them.

Steve remembers the first time he pulled into his new home:

“From the outside pulling in, I still remember the first time we drove in to look at this house. I love the lot. I love sitting in the woods. I love the privacy. I love living in the back of a development where my kids can be outside playing and there aren’t a lot of cars driving around.”

Rhonda tells an amazing story that happened after she moved in that made her house feel like a home:

“I got into the house, and I’m fixing the house up, and I love the house, and it’s a home, but it’s missing something and it needed this dog. And this dog showed up on my porch and wouldn’t leave. And I called my friends, and I said, ‘this great dog showed up. You should come get this dog. She’s beautiful.’ And every person I called said, ‘No, that’s your dog. And now your house is completely a home.’ And it definitely is.”

Every homebuyer’s story is different, but certain parts remain the same. Lots of videos on the My New Home channel feature recent homebuyers giving their advice, explaining parts of the process, and talking about that feeling that comes with simply walking into your own home at the end of the day.

RHONDA: I got into the house, and I’m fixing the house up, and I love the house, and it’s a home, but it’s missing something and it needed this dog. And this dog showed up on my porch and wouldn’t leave.

RHONDA: And I called my friends, I was like, “This great dog showed up. You should come get this dog. She’s beautiful.” And every person I called said, “No, that’s your dog. And now your house is completely a home.” And it definitely is.

MARIO: I’m very, very interested in my family being taken care of. Providing a roof is one thing. Providing a home takes a little more effort, a lot more effort. I want it not only to be safe but I want it to be comfortable and enjoyable. If need be maybe a pool down the road, jungle gym, who knows. At least now there’s room for that.

KATE: Everyone says it in the beginning. They all say like, ‘Oh, when you see it, you’ll know. You’ll walk in and you’ll know.’ And after about 30 houses, you’re like that’s not going to happen. That is a load of crap. Like that’s not going to happen. And then it does. It’s nice to like know that they were actually meaning that and that it will happen.

TIM: I guess if I could take anything away from like in the beginning and the end, you’ll find the combination that makes you happy. You’re buying a very expensive thing and just take your time. I don’t know, you’ll find it. I mean, we found it.
